PRINCE2 Practitioner examines the full PRINCE2 7 method at application level: given a project scenario, can you apply and tailor the method correctly? This is a plain-English summary of the exam’s scope. PeopleCert does not publish per-topic question weights on the public product page; the official syllabus (available through PeopleCert channels) is authoritative, so treat this as orientation, not gospel.
The exam at a glance
56 questions and sub-questions worth 70 marks, 150 minutes, pass mark 60% (42 marks), open book (the official PRINCE2 manual is the permitted reference). Objective-testing formats built on project scenarios. Only the PRINCE2 7 version is examinable - the 5th and 6th Editions are retired.
The five integrated elements
PRINCE2 7 frames the method as five elements that the exam tests together, not separately:
- People - leading and managing people across the project’s organisational ecosystem: change, culture, communication. Substantially strengthened in PRINCE2 7, and poorly covered by older study materials.
- Principles - the seven obligations every PRINCE2 project keeps: ensure continued business justification, learn from experience, defined roles, responsibilities and relationships, manage by stages, manage by exception, focus on products, tailor to suit the project. At Practitioner level they work as decision tests applied to scenarios.
- Practices - the seven aspects managed continuously: business case, organizing, plans, quality, risk, issues, progress. Expect questions on applying each practice’s techniques, management products and responsibilities in context.
- Processes - the seven processes from starting up a project through directing, initiating, controlling a stage, managing product delivery, managing a stage boundary, to closing a project. Questions test who does what and when, and which management products belong where.
- Project context - tailoring the method to the project’s size, complexity, risk and environment without abandoning principles or control.
What “Practitioner level” means in the questions
Foundation asks what the method says; Practitioner asks whether an action is appropriate in a described situation and why. Typical angles: which role should take a decision, whether an escalation is justified under manage by exception, which management product should record given information, whether a proposed tailoring keeps the principles intact.
