The HubSpot Inbound Marketing Certification is built on a free course of nine lessons, roughly five hours of video. The exam follows the course closely, so the syllabus is essentially the lesson list. HubSpot does not publish a percentage weight per lesson, so plan to study all of them. The nine lessons
- Welcome to the Inbound Marketing Certification - what the course covers and how the certification works.
- Inbound Marketing Fundamentals - the inbound methodology (attract, engage, delight) and the flywheel model that replaces the funnel.
- Getting to Know Your Customer - buyer personas and the buyer’s journey (awareness, consideration, decision).
- Creating Content for the Buyer’s Journey - matching content formats to each stage and to buyer intent.
- Developing a Content Distribution Strategy - getting content seen across owned, earned and paid channels, including SEO and social.
- Understanding Behavioral Marketing and Customer Segmentation - targeting based on behaviour and dividing audiences into useful segments.
- Maximizing ROI With Marketing Attribution and Experimentation - measuring what works with attribution and testing.
- Utilizing Marketing Automation and Artificial Intelligence - using automation and AI to scale inbound work.
- Inbound Marketing Certification Next Steps - where to go after you pass.
How to read the structure
The lessons build on each other: the methodology and customer understanding come first, then content, then distribution, then measurement and scaling. Because no per-lesson weighting is published, treat the lessons as roughly equal in importance and aim for broad understanding rather than spotting one heavily tested area. Many exam questions are scenario-style, so focus on recognising which inbound action fits a situation.
How to study it
Watch the lessons in order and do the in-course quizzes, since the exam follows HubSpot’s own definitions. Pay particular attention to the inbound methodology, the buyer’s journey stages and content-to-stage matching, as those ideas recur throughout. The course and exam are free and online, so you can revise at your own pace and retake the exam if needed. Confirm the current outline on the HubSpot Academy course page.
